Privacy policy · Effective [DATE OF FIRST RELEASE]
Your table stays on your phone.
Socrabites helps you decide what to eat by asking a few questions. The answers that describe you, like allergies, the way you eat and who's at your table, are stored on your iPhone and are not sent to us.
What the app stores, and where
Everything below is saved only on your device, in the app's own storage:
- Your profile, if you create one: allergies, diets and foods you won't eat, chosen by tapping. Nothing is typed.
- Household members: a label you pick (for example "Partner" or "Kid") and that person's food rules. No names, ages, photos or contact details.
- Your history: past verdicts, your one-tap rating of them, favorites, vetoed dishes, a meal you planned for tomorrow, and how often you've said you're tired of something.
- Reminder, if you turn it on: scheduled as a notification on your iPhone. Nothing about it is sent to us.
- Your own dishes: dishes you type, paste, import from a recipe link or scan with the camera, with the tags you give them and the lists you sort them into. Importing from a link downloads that one page from its website, the way a browser would, and keeps the recipe on your iPhone for your own use. The website's own privacy policy applies to that request; nothing from it is sent to us.
- Scanning with the camera: when you point the camera at a recipe card, an ingredient list, a package label or a menu, or choose a photo of one, the text is read by your iPhone itself, using Apple's on-device text recognition. You check the result before anything is saved. The photo isn't kept by the app, and neither the photo nor the text ever leaves your iPhone. The camera is used only while you're scanning, and only if you allow it.
We don't create accounts and don't run servers that receive this information. Uninstalling the app removes it. You can also erase all of it at any time from Your profile → Delete all my data.
Apple Intelligence, on your iPhone
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence turned on, the app can use Apple's on-device model. If you type what you're craving, it's read on your iPhone to suggest answers. It isn't saved, and it isn't sent to us. The model also writes an optional note on your verdict and swap ideas, using the verdict and recipe the app already chose. It never receives your allergies, diets or household. You can turn it off from the More menu during a dialogue.
What we collect
To learn whether the app actually helps, it sends anonymous usage measurements through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the EU. For example: a dialogue started, a question was answered, a verdict was shown, or the shopping list was shared.
- What a measurement contains: the kind of event, whether you were cooking or eating out, which question was answered (never your answer), a veto or check-in choice from a fixed list, which Apple Intelligence feature was used (never what you typed), that you added a dish and how (never the dish), that you started a camera scan and whether it was for a recipe or a menu (never the photo or the text), and basic technical details such as app version, iOS version and device model.
- Who it comes from: an anonymous identifier made from a random install ID, hashed so it can't be traced back to you. It isn't linked to your name, email or Apple Account, and it changes if you reinstall.
- What it never contains: your allergies, diets, foods you won't eat, household members, the dishes or recipes you were given, or your history.
We use these numbers only to improve the app. They are never used for advertising or tracking. TelemetryDeck's own privacy policy applies to how it processes them.
What we never do
- We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't show ads based on your information, and we don't sell or share it.
- Sponsored placements, if we ever offer them, can't change your verdict. They are always labeled.
Maps, sharing and other services
“Find it nearby” opens an Apple Maps search for a dish type. The app never requests your location; Apple Maps' own privacy policy applies once it opens. Sharing a shopping list or a verdict card uses the iPhone share sheet, and you choose where it goes. A shared verdict card shows only the verdict, never your rules or household.
The app has no paid links today. If we add any (for example to a grocery store or delivery app), they'll be labeled Paid link right next to the button.
Allergies and health
The app filters dishes using the rules you give it, but it can't know every ingredient a restaurant or product uses. Always check labels and tell the restaurant about allergies. Nothing in the app is medical advice.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. A household member labeled "Kid" is stored on your device as a label and a list of food rules only.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and, for meaningful changes, tell you in the app. Questions: [CONTACT EMAIL].
